GrinderBench is available for license to a wide variety of users, including:
- suppliers of microprocessors, operating systems, and Java virtual machines
- mobile phone manufacturers
- mobile phone service providers
- content providers for Java applications
The GrinderBench license provides access to the benchmark source code, allowing the licensee to profile and directly observe the workload of the benchmarks and identify specific strengths and weaknesses in a mobile Java implementation. The source code is also useful for evaluating other Java-equipped products such as set top boxes and in-car entertainment systems.
GrinderBench may be licensed individually or in combination with other benchmark software from EEMBC, which includes benchmark suites designed to measure processor performance in digital imaging and entertainment, telecom, networking, office automation, and automotive industrial applications.
EEMBC invites any manufacturer who has an interest in using their GrinderBench benchmark results for marketing and competitive purposes, or who wishes to participate in benchmark definition and development activities, to become a member of the EEMBC Board of Directors or its Java Subcommittee. Members of the EEMBC Board of Directors obtain access to all EEMBC benchmark software, while members of individual subcommittees have access to the source code and voting rights on the suites developed by the subcommittees of which they are members.
The table below compares the benefits of licensing and EEMBC membership.

About EEMBC
EEMBC, the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium, was formed in 1997 to develop meaningful performance benchmarks for the hardware and software used in embedded systems. Through the combined efforts of its members, EEMBC® benchmarks have become an industry standard for evaluating the capabilities of embedded processors, compilers, and Java implementations according to objective, clearly defined, application-based criteria.
Since releasing its first certified benchmark scores in April 2000, EEMBC scores have effectively replaced the obsolete Dhrystone mips, especially in situations where real engineering value is important. EEMBC benchmarks reflect real-world applications and the demands that embedded systems encounter in these environments. The result is a collection of algorithms and applications organized into benchmark suites targeting telecommunications, networking, digital media, Java, automotive/industrial, consumer, and office equipment products.
